REI Labor Day Sale: Top Camping Gear Deals

REI’s Labor Day Sale runs through Sept. 4 and includes big savings on all kinds of camping gear. This is a clearance sale, so inventories will run out fast. If you find a deal that’s right for you, act on it.

Big Agnes upped the ante on its Copper Spur HV UL2 tent with stronger, lighter materials and new features. Carried over are the 3D bin “mezzanine” for storage off the floor and big ceiling pockets for storing gear and media devices. It has two doors and two “awning-style” vestibules to add to the covered space, protecting from the sun or rain.

It comes with corner hardware for securing it with poles, adding a rainfly, and staking it out. Reflective guylines help keep the walls taut. All the seams are taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape to maintain protection from the elements, the brand says.

The latest Storm runs on AAA alkaline batteries or the BD 1500 lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The white LED puts out 450 lumens on the max setting, 224 on medium, and a chill 6 lumens on low. This headlamp’s other modes include dimming, strobe, red, green, and blue night vision.

It locks to avoid accidentally running down the light, and it also has a brightness memory function that lets you pick up where you left off, so to speak.

The Storm has an IP67 rating, so it’s considered dustproof and waterproof and can survive being submerged in meter-deep water for up to 30 minutes.

New materials dropped more than a pound from the previous Half Dome SL 2+ backpacking tent. The trail weight is now down to 3 pounds 15 ounces. You’ll still get the color-coded pole assembly, dual-stake vestibules for added coverage, and lots of pockets and hang loops.

It’s a classic for a reason, with a two-person build and two D-shaped doors, but also gets a bump in living space with a 2+ floor plan. The tent uses an exclusive tension-truss construction design and pre-bent poles that help make the side walls more vertical and add headroom.

The MegaSleep 25/40 sleeping bag is made for car campers who also like to venture onto the trail. It’s made for three seasons of comfort, complete with separate cool- and warm-weather sides. Hence the 25/40 variable temp rating: Darker-blue side up is rated to 25 degrees Fahrenheit, and lighter-blue side up is rated to 40 degrees F.

It uses microfiber insulation for loft and compressibility tucked behind a 40-denier ripstop nylon shell. The rectangular shape is a match for the Exped MegaMat sleeping pad (not included). The sleeping bag comes with a full-length zipper that includes the foot section to let it unfold to be used like a blanket.

The MegaMat Duo 10 can add the comfort of home to your tent, truck bed, or wherever you decide to make camp. It has welded seams as well as 3D construction to create a level sleeping surface for two people. The surface fabric is made from a laminated polyester that’s durable and has a finish to help prevent you from sliding off.

It self-inflates but has two wide, low-profile valves to speed things up or finish it off with the minipump. The oversized deflation port will empty it faster.

The Camp Boss is 20% larger in all dimensions than its Flexlite namesake. That makes it roomier and ups the weight capacity to 300 pounds.

Adjustments to the seat ditch the tension zones of previous models to accommodate a wider range of body types.

It’s a four-leg design that overlaps its aluminum frame for stability. The bluesign-approved materials also have a DWR finish to deter stains and moisture buildup.

Greystone 20 bags reach that temperature rating (16 degrees F, actually) thanks to the 600-fill-power DownTek, which can repel water to maintain its insulating value.

They have a contoured hood with a cord lock to uncinch it. There’s a snag-resistant, two-way zipper and draft-fighting details like the insulated tube along the hood opening, collars, and zipper garage.

The mummy shape fits close for better thermal performance and saves some material, and thus weight in your pack. The women’s bags have increased insulation in common cold spots and are contoured more closely to the silhouette of women’s bodies.

The ProLite Apex is a three-season, self-inflating sleeping pad that provides 2 inches of space between you and the ground. It’s made with backpacking in mind and uses the brand’s intuitive WingLock airlock for one-way inflation and deflation.

For warmth, Therm-a-Rest uses its StrataCore construction, which puts a continuous layer of thermal foam between alternating ridges of air. It has an R-value of 3.8.

From heating water for coffee or waking up your favorite freeze-dried meal, the Jetboil Flash cooking system can get water boiling in 100 seconds. That saves time and fuel. This all-in-one system packs into itself, and the bottom doubles as a measuring cup/bowl.

It uses push-button ignition, and the stove works with any isobutene-propane canister with a Lindal valve.

This 11-piece stainless-steel cook set includes a 4.75-quart stock pot, a 1.8-quart saucepan, vented lids, an 8.5-inch frying pan, and a collapsible cutting board. There’s also a spatula and spoon with two-piece handles so they can nestle inside the pots and pans. The pieces are all dishwasher-safe, so you can give them an extra clean once you’re home.
